2018 – Goals and Accountability – Be SMART

2018 - Goals, Accountability - SMART

"goals 2018"

2018 is HERE.  Be SMART. Set your goals and attain them.

Is it possible to achieve your goals in 2018? Yes! When we say, be SMART – we mean make your goals SMART. Specific. Measurable. Attainable. Realistic. Timely.

The question we hear most often is, “Do You have a New Year’s Resolution?” With the typical answers being; lose weight, be happier, be more organized, blah blah blah. I’ve said them all, heard them all and lived them all. In reality, it’s time to take a look within and decide where are you going?

I have always had a problem with the question – where do you want to be? My usual answer is, “I am trying to get through the day.” I have made it through many days and have ended up where I am a bit by chance, with little direction. This year, I plan on heading into 2018 with purpose. So what are my goals?

Weight – I seriously have to lose weight. For my health and my future.  I have had health issues from the time I was born, adding new ones on, as I go through life. As a result, last year I was in the ICU for three days, with the doctors thinking I had a stroke. Fortunately, it was a complicated migraine. Unfortunately, this meant more medicine and more doctors visits.

For 2018, there are no more excuses. Ideally, I’d like to be down 40 pounds. Realistically, I would be happy with 10 and ecstatic with 20.

Work – Find myself when it comes to working. I work in social media. I love social media and creating content. I also love marketing. I am currently creating content. Just content. In 2018, I need to expand my role and utilize my marketing skills. I need to grow – both in the job itself and financially. What I am doing right now is not enough. It is enough to sustain me, but not enough to make me fulfilled. The gas tank is nearing empty and needs to be filled. Ideally, I would love to build a career where I am, but am not sure if my current position will allow that. I will keep my eyes open as I forge ahead and be aware as I move forward of where I want to end up. How do I measure this goal? I will know within the first three months of 2018 if my goal is attainable. Stay tuned.

Blogging – I would love to get back into blogging. I know I cannot do it 100% of the time, but I would love to write and create. Is three articles a week attainable. Can I write every day? Can I write every week? My goal is to write content at least three-four times per week. I can do this. I can do this. Now to find content to write about. My life is not that exciting. Does that mean I make it more exciting? I can use a change and excitement.

Family – be more present. Enjoy the moments. I love being with my family. Spending time with them and just laughing. I need to do that more. This one is hard to measure but if my laughing increases – I am in.

Finally, in 2018, I would like to make sure my mom is taken care of. She has dementia/Alzheimers and the last six months has been difficult. Very difficult. We had to take my mom’s car away and as a result, we have seen a sharp decline in her mental faculties. Seeing her live in NY, closer to her children would make things a lot easier.

What are your goals for 2018? Are the goals realistic? Can you be held accountable? Are they specific? Measurable? Timely? Let’s do it together.
